Multiple Grid Heights

Battery Grid Punching dies can be configured so you can produce grids with up to 5 different heights from the same die. OAK takes this a step further with our exclusive Self-Storing Tooling feature. This feature allows you to change grid heights in about 30 minutes, while conventional dies can take up to 7 hours to change grid heights. Giving you over 6 hours of extra production time every time you change grid heights. This extra production time can add up to millions of extra grids over a year.

Self Storing Tooling

The trick to the OAK Self-Storing Tooling feature is that all the tooling sections for the different grid heights are always in the die. All you have to do to change heights is engage the tooling section for the heights you want to make. With conventional dies the tooling sections for different heights have to be manually installed or removed to change heights. This time consuming process requires the die to be removed from the press and disassembled. You also have the chance of damaging tooling during the height changeover or misplacing the tooling when not in use. This is not an issue or concern with the OAK dies

Adjustable Wire Weaving Feature
  • The Internationally Patented Wire Weaving feature from OAK allows you to offset or weave the horizontal wires on the battery grid.
  • Some of the benefits of this feature include:
    • Increased overpaste thickness
    • Even distribution of overpaste on top and bottom of the grid
    • Improved paste adhesion
  • The wire weaving station is also fully adjustable so you can change the amount of wire offset applied to the grid. This will allow you to quickly and easily fine tune your plate thickness to match up with the demands of your battery.

Counter Rotating Press Drive

  • When you run at high speeds presses create a lot of lateral inertia due to the rotating elements of the press.
  • If these rotational forces are not balanced the press will tend to rock back and forth.
  • This movement can cause components to wear out faster and make it harder to control the punching process.
  • The OAK presses use 2 shafts that rotate in opposite directions. This counter rotating system eliminates this lateral inertia, making the press very stable.
  • Other presses in the battery industry have a single shaft, so there is no lateral inertia compensation.

Heavy Duty Castings

  • Stamping is a pretty violent process. These is a lot of vibration created each cycle of the press.
  • Most (if not all) mechanical failures on presses are directly linked to vibration.
  • OAK presses use heavy duty cast iron frames for all our presses.
  • Some other press manufacturers use welded steel frames on their presses.
  • Cast Iron dampens vibration 20 times better than steel.

Hydraulic Withdrawal System

  • OAK Presses offer a hydraulic withdrawal system on our presses.
  • This allows the operator to open up the dies so they can easily work on the dies or clean the dies without having to remove them from the press.
  • Most other presses do not offer this feature.
